Shaderz is built to collect as little as possible. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking cookie. This page explains the few things we do process and why.
Short version
- You can use the editor and every export without giving us anything. Images and videos are rendered in your browser and are never uploaded.
- If you publish a background to the gallery, its name, the optional author name you type, its settings and a thumbnail become public.
- The “describe a mood” search runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to us.
- Our host keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser, time) for security and reliability.
Who is responsible
Shaderz (shaderz.fun) is the data controller for the processing described here.
What we process
Using the editor
Your settings live in the page address (URL) so you can share them. PNG, video and GIF exports are produced on your device. When you export an MP4, your browser may download the open-source ffmpeg.wasm encoder from the unpkg.com CDN, which then receives your IP address as part of that request.
Publishing to the gallery
When you click Publish, we store the name, the optional author name, the shader settings and a small JPEG thumbnail of the current frame. This content is public, can be viewed, liked and remixed by anyone, and is listed in search engines. Do not put personal information in the name or author fields. Legal basis: your consent, given when you choose to publish.
Likes
Likes are an anonymous counter. To stop you from liking the same background twice, the list of backgrounds you liked is kept in your browser's local storage, not on our servers.
Mood search
The “describe a mood” field searches a preset library that your browser downloads from our site. The matching happens on your device, so the text you type is never sent to us or to any third party.
Technical logs
Our hosting provider records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, time) to deliver the site, prevent abuse and fix errors. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure service. These logs are kept for a short period set by the provider.
The embed script on other websites
When a website uses shaderz.js from our domain, visitors' browsers download the script from our host, which creates the technical log described above. The script itself sets no cookies, reads no personal data and makes no network requests after it has loaded. Websites can also host the script themselves, in which case we receive nothing.
Cookies and local storage
Shaderz does not set cookies. It uses your browser's local storage for two conveniences only: the list of backgrounds you liked and the last author name you used when publishing. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings.
Service providers
- Vercel: hosting and content delivery.
- Neon: database for published gallery backgrounds (hosted on AWS in the United States).
- unpkg.com: delivery of the ffmpeg.wasm encoder for MP4 export.
Some of these providers are based in or store data in the United States. Transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses or their certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep data
- Published backgrounds: as long as the gallery runs, or until we remove them.
- Technical logs: the provider's standard retention period.
Your rights
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or a similar jurisdiction, you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent. Because there are no accounts, the only personal data we may hold is what you chose to type in a published background. You can also complain to your data protection authority, in France the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Children
Shaderz is not directed at children under 15 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the home page.
